Out and About and What to do
As well as the swimming, table-tennis, birdwatching or painting at our villa, other local activities include horse riding, parapenting, cycling, walking, kayaking, tennis and the famous gliding school at Fayence .The recently-built Four Seasons Golf complex is 10 minutes away.
The nearest beach is Theoule 20 minutes drive away. Then head on to Cannes a further ten minutes on the wonderful coast road.
At the centre you will find La Croisette where all the Big yachts are and The Palais de Festivals of Film Festival fame;also just behind, Serious Shopping in the Rue d’Antibes; then wander up to the fabulous old Le Suquet district.
Travel on East via Antibes which boasts The Picasso Museum and a daily market.
To glamorous Nice and the Promenade des Anglais with the iconic Negresco Hotel. Nice is brimming over with galleries and museums featuring Matisse, Leger, Cocteau, Chagall, Dufy to name just a few.
Our villa has a wide variety of guide books and leaflets indicating the enormous range of places to visit if you don’t want to just ‘chill’ round our lovely pool and soak up the sun with a glass or two of Provencal Rose.
There are several Aqua Parks on the coast together with organised beach games in high summer for kids.
Grasse, the famous perfume town offers several wonderful perfume-making visits. Also in this direction are Tourettes sur Loup and St. Paul de Vence, mediaeval perching villages, always favourites. For culture, Vence has the famous Fondation Maeght and Cagnes the Musee Renoir and Musee Grimaldi. Horticultural enthusiasts can visit the magnificent Villa Rosthchild Ephrussi then continue to the wonderful Serre de la Madone, designed by Hidcote’s creator, Major Johnstone, in Menton, the charming, intrinsically French, last town before the Italian border only an hour and a quarter away.on the Autoroute or along one of the French Riviera’s Corniches., En route is Monaco, where you may stop for a flutter in the Casino or a meal at one of the top restaurants. Just over an hour’s drive West is famous St Tropez. North from us is the spectacular Gorges du Verdon (the deepest gorge in Europe) culminating in the spectacularly turquoise Lac de Ste Croix.
Cezanne draws you West to his famous Mont St. Victoire, specially fabulous at sunset, and his paintings and studio in Aix en Provence.
Jazz in France by Sue Rowles
Don’t forget the Internationally-famous Antibes and Nice Jazz festivals in July and the Cannes Film Festival in May and the Monaco Grand Prix. Catch the pretty train along the coast to these events to avoid parking problems. We have visited the area for many years and are still finding lovely new places.
